Abandoned mining operations litter the state of Western Australia. Whether it be exploration diggings, drilling, shafts, strips, open-cuts or pits, they are a blight on the landscape.

Part of the approval process for new mining operations should be a commitment to an absolute clean-up and a return of the landscape, and its ecologies, to their original state.

If that costs too much, then the operation is simply not viable and should not be considered further.
